We’re often consumed by worry. Anxiety fills our minds, stealing precious time and peace because we struggle to completely release it into God's hands.
But why?
Why do we find it so hard to surrender, trusting that He is in control of our lives?
Most of us can recite Philippians 4:6-7 as easily as the alphabet. Yet we don’t feel the peace this verse promises afterward.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Why?
Perhaps it's because we have a God complex—we’re trying to do everything, including God’s job, instead of focusing on ours.
Anxiety and fear wrap around our minds, consuming our thoughts. Not only because we allow it, but because we’re trying to do what only God can do.
Here’s the ironic part: trying is exactly the right word because we're not meant to be God. Every time we try to control it all, we fail, instead of simply being His daughters.
Recently, my mentor encouraged me to confidently walk into my calling—to use my gift of writing to point people to Jesus.
In that moment, I felt peaceful, motivated, and inspired. But by the next morning, fear and overwhelm crept in, clouding my mind and leaving me unable to think of a clear plan or the next steps.
Do you know why? It was because I felt the pressure of questions such as:
I need to make this work.
I need to make my words impactful.
How will I earn an income from this?
These thoughts blinded me from the truth:
My job is to be obedient. His job is to do the rest.
As much as God wants to partner with us, He knows this isn’t a 50/50 split—it’s more like 90/10, with God holding the majority. He takes our 10% and multiplies it to create something significant.
We’re not in control of the results. Think about it:
When Beyoncé released songs like Irreplaceable or Texas Hold 'Em, she couldn’t predict the full impact they would have. Her marketing team had educated guesses, but no one truly knew. That wasn’t their job.
Their role was to:
Write the lyrics and melody
Record the song
Design the artwork
Release it into the world
Then, they waited to see what would happen.
Friends, our job is obedience. We do our part, and God promises to do the rest.
Doesn’t that put you at ease?
Practical Tips for Combating Worry
Before I share, I want you to know that I’m right there with you. I haven’t figured it all out. Recently, worry led me to a place of indecision and even physical paralysis. I felt stuck, overwhelmed by the newness of the life God is calling me to.
But here's the truth: We already have the victory. Victory is ours because of who we believe in, not because of anything we do ourselves.
So let’s access that victory, both spiritually and physically. Here’s how:
Move your body: Take a walk, do pilates, or hit the gym. Physical movement helps your brain shift focus, giving you mental space to process thoughts and brainstorm solutions.
Praise: Remind yourself of who God is and what He has done for you and others throughout the Bible.
Sing: Go for a drive, turn up your worship music, and sing at the top of your lungs. It will refocus your heart on the fact that God holds your life in His hands.
Dance: A dance break always boosts your mood!
Community: Lean on your community for encouragement. Allow others to speak into your life and lift you up.
Journal: Identify the root of your worry. Is it fear? Finances? An unfair timeline? Write it down, then give it to God.
Bible Verse Wall: Write down verses that speak to your current feelings and where you need God’s presence. For instance, if you’re struggling with fear, pick a verse like 2 Timothy 1:7 and place it somewhere visible, like your wall or mirror. I did this in September, titling each verse. Every time I felt anxious, joyful, or in need of a reminder, I looked at the verses, and they encouraged me.
Bible Verse Wall, September 2024
God wants your worries. He wants you to come as you are—broken and empty—so He can exchange your burdens and fill you with something better. God never leaves you the same.
LIFE UPDATES-
Where Have I been?- The last month has been hard spiritually and physically. I haven’t been sleeping much and I’ve been navigating this new season of life which feels super foreign. Nevertheless, I’m back. I’ve missed writing. These devotionals bring me closer to God and remind me of whose I am.
Travelling- My bestie and I went to Hungary for her birthday trip and it was the most fun we’ve had in a long time. It’s always fulfilling when you spend time with your people, laugh for no reason, and remind each other why you became best friends in the first place. Would die for her in a heartbeat, love her to the core! If you and your bestie haven’t spent quality time together, take this as a sign to go and do it! Your heart and being will thank you for it!

Huge faith step- God has speaking into my life through other people to finally step into the ‘New’ He’s calling me into. I’ll be sharing more about this in the next few weeks. TIP: If you feel a tug in a certain direction and many people are confirming it ‘randomly’ and not randomly, pray into it. Steps of faith are scary, but you don’t need to rely on your strength, He makes you brave.
